Vroom in the Night Sky (review)

Vroom in the Night Sky is an indie game on the Nintendo Switch made by a Japanese team, Poisoft. The game costs 9.99 USD. I played through the whole game and my overall experience was pleasant. There isn't too much to say about this game so lets start with what this game is.

So basically you are a Witch or as the game calls you, Magical Girl. you mainly drive around in flying motorcycles, With the exception of some unlock-able vehicles Some are cool, like the aircraft, and some are wacky, like the bench. In the game you go around collecting stars in order to open a gate, which ends the level. The goal can be whatever you want it to be. You can either try to finish as fast as possible or try to collect stardust. Stardust is the game's currency you use it to buy more Magic Bikes. You can collect stardust by completing levels and by doing tricks in the level mostly by Magic Turning, or simply drifting, and going real fast. now lets talk game play.

The game starts off with asking you if you want to do a tutorial, I skipped it. I did go back and do the tutorial because I had no clue on how to play. The tutorial is very useful and it isn't filled with super long explanations. They are short and simple and it freely lets you try out the techniques. The levels are simple and there is much more happening on the ground than in the sky so it is a lot more fun playing on the ground. The first bike is very slow and in turn kind of boring, but once you get the faster Magic Bikes the game is a lot more fun. in each level a rival Magical Girl will appear and she will go around stealing stardust and even stars. In order to get her to leave you have to shoot her with star rockets. Star rockets make the game interesting because you can use them to collect stardust and stars but they will take away from your gas. You never really run out of gas unless you spam the rockets. In case you do there is a place to refill your gas. the only problem is the game never tells you that. I found out on accident, so if you see a big glowing square with an M on it then that is the refill zone. That is the basically how this game plays, there are achievements that unlock secret levels and vehicles but there isn't too many.  The final hidden level is the best level because it has so many obstacles everywhere. I wish the other levels did the same.

The game's music is not that bad. It is very catchy and it gets stuck in my head. The only problem I have with the music is that sometimes the songs sound very similar, which for some may not be a problem but for me it was. At first I thought the game only had 2 songs.

The game doesn't look bad it looks fine. The game, however does need more textures because everything looks smooth. I don't really think the graphics of the game really matter.

I really hope that Poisoft gets to read this because there is a good game in here somewhere. The biggest problem this game has is that its too easy. if the Key stars ( the ones that open the gate) would be placed in areas with more obstacles then it would be more challenging and it would make the game a lot more fun. I also wished this game had a multiplayer mode. This is an Idea I had but Poisoft can have it; there should be a multiplayer mode which is timed and the goal is that the player that collects stardust wins or a game where a player gets the key star and whoever holds it the longest wins and to get the star  back you can shoot the other players with magic rockets. It is very simple but it would work. The Mechanics of the game are very good and it is fun to fly around fast dodging things but there isn't much to dodge. So if someone at Poisoft is reading this please update the game. As is I give the game a 5/10.
