Jontron controversy aside, is this game any good or is it just a hugely funded nostalgia trip? As a kid I loved Banjo Kazooie (this is gonna be hard...) So to me the game feels like an immediate 10/10. The end that's it. (Just kidding I am not going to do that) Lets start off with what the game does well.
The game has amazing characters and it is very humorous. The Music is amazing a la Grant. (Grant Kirkhope is the guy who makes the music for the game fyi) The game is very colorful and it looks nice. ( I played it on the ps4 and had no frame rate issues) The Character Designs are great and the tag team duo, Yooka(the green dude) and Laylee(purple bat) compliment each other well. The game plays well there are things to collect and multiple boss fights in the game and so much to do. I wish I could say and praise this game more but that is it.
(This is really painful to say but) The camera can be very shitty and it takes a while to get use to. There are only 5 maps in the game and not all of them were good (fuck you Ice level). The maps are big and there is plenty to do but there isn't much of a variety to the locations. The Five levels are all themed, the first( and best) is a jungle, second is the ice map( again fuck you), then there is the swamp/ marsh, the space(?) map and the casino( its actually kinda cool not that bad. Most platformers do have some levels people Don't like but since there is such a huge variety of levels its okay. There where times in the game where I was thinking "Okay next is gonna be the good map" and it never happened. the maps were not horrible but at times I just wished there was more. The abilities in the game are great but little is done with them. For example the ( I think its called this) Lizard Lash. I wish there were more things I could do with that (swinging around like spider man!!!!!).
After playing this game for about 15 hours I can say I had lots of fun playing it but I came out wishing there were different kinds of landscapes to explore. I wish I would have used the flying ability a lot more and the Lizard Lash. This game would have really benefited from having more maps and maybe cutting down some of the maps to be more bite sized. I give this game a 7/10.
