Splatoon 2 Review

Splatoon 2 is a third person shooter on the Nintendo Switch. Like many shooters the main focus is the multiplayer, but unlike many shooters the main objective is not killing other players. The game has 4 different competitive multiplayer modes; turf war, splat zones, tower control, and rain maker.

Each game mode is very fun. Splat Zone is all about maintaining control of a zone for 100 seconds. Tower control is about riding a tower through different checkpoints and making sure the enemy team doesn't take the tower. Rain Maker is like capture the flag but the flag is a weapon. Turf war is the game type most people play and the main objective is to cover the floor with your teams ink. Turf war is surprisingly very fun and even people who don't regularly like shooting games will enjoy this mode. The online in this game is great aside from the fact that you cant really talk to your friends. However it took me a long time to figure out how to even play with friends, but once you figure it out you are ready to have lots of fun.

Single player is really more like a tutorial mode that is challenging and fun to play through, but I wouldn't really want to play through it again. The main campaign forces you to use all the different weapon types and so it teaches you how to play. The best part about single player was the platforming. it really teaches you how to get around with your weapons.I am glad I played the single player first and I recommend all newcomers to do the same.

Splatoon 2 is a great game that the Nintendo switch needed for the summer and I would say this is a must have for all Nintendo switch owners. The game is great but it points out great flaws for the Nintendo Switch's online service. The Switch online app isn't very good and a game like this deserves better. The app doesn't allow you to really set up anything with friends because all you can really do with it is invite friends to private matches and league matches and those invites only show up on the persons phone. So if the people you added after a game of turf war does not have the app you probably wont be able to ever speak to them. I recommend Discord, it is a much better app than the Nintendo Online app.
