Little Nightmares is a very short game by Bandai Namco. The game is so short that it only takes about 2 hours to finish and that is if you take your time. Just because the game is short doesn't mean that it isn't worth a look. The game looks very good and it has a unique art style. The game has everything a good horror game needs; good atmosphere, scary music, and situations with a lot of urgency.
So lets start off with the bad things about the game. the game is a 3D platformer with a fixed camera. If you don't immediately understand why that is a problem well let me explain. Well simply put it is hard to tell where you will go when moving fast and at times it causes you to fall. This can be really annoying if it happens in a case scene. Objectively that is the only thing wrong with the game, However something that really bothers me about this game is that it follows the trend of most modern horror games. It doesn't tell you much about what is going on in the game. I know just about as much about the game as when I started. When games do this one really has to think to themselves, Now where is the payoff. At the end of the game I was left wondering what was this even about. In this aspect the game was very disappointing.
Other than having its story up for speculation the game did many things right. as I mentioned the game has a great atmosphere and even though it doesn't show you much it does show you somethings. The imagery in the game is great. It sets the tone very early in the game and makes the game feel like a great journey. The game play is a lot like the game Limbo. You run, jump and drag things around. There is also some stealth in the game making it all the more thrilling. The music is scary and sends chills down your spine. The game is short but there is a lot of hidden things in the game making it re-playable. At first I thought this game was not worth the 20 USD price tag, but after playing it I believe it is justifiable.
