Intro
I'm sure like everyone I was intrigued when Cuphead was first revealed. During one of Microsoft's E3 conferences they showed off a montage of their upcoming indie showcases, and amongst them was a quick Disney looking title with old fashioned graphics. As the years went by my intrigue lept to fascination as my desire for this title grew. Everything about it was so promising, what with the art design and development behind it. The creation behind this game is either very relatable or the perfect indie tale. Starting with two brothers, neither had any gaming experience other than they use to play a lot when they were both younger. They had hoped a game would inevitably come out in a 1920's, but when they saw a void in that aspect they rolled up their sleeves and started getting to work. With the help of friends and family they managed to get everything they needed to make an awesome video game. The soundtrack is superb, they design is incredible, and the difficulty is the cherry on top. So with the game finally out I got my sibling and got to playing another two-player experience, which was much needed this day and age with the lack of two-person video games.
Story
The Cup brothers gamble away their souls at the Devil's casino, and now how to pay off their debt by collecting other peoples debts; pretty straight-forward concept. The game shines in its mechanics, as it should be since gameplay is king. Here's how my brother and I have been playing; before/after we smoke some "Mary J" we play a boss/stage on the easiest difficulty then either proceed then screen & rage (yes even on the simpler setting). We haven't finished the game yet, but hopefully we'll continue after the credits, as this is a Xbox title and I tend to drop off the games as I am no longer into one-hundred percenting the achievement lists. Since I'm on this rant can I like to calm it down by emphasizing the artstyle, my god I am a sucker for these graphics as remember really enjoying the black & white level in Kingdom Hearts II, as well as getting the Mickey Mouse games and really getting my hands on any title that ooze this 1940's style... Ooh look that horror game Bendy 🕱.
Summary
I really enjoy platformers, and it utterly filled my heart that this has become many gamers game of the year that isn't another Mario platformer. If you can get drag a player two into this I strongly recommend you do. I think this game is a bit overhyped, but honestly can't find a fault with it anything would just be nit-picks. Now don't get me wrong this isn't going to get a perfect score as the difficulty alone will immediately make what you love about this game as background noise. No Query today as it is New Year's Eve in the time of this post, and leaving a question feels like a regret this end of the year (I don't know maybe I'm just crazy), but feel free to leave your thoughts below.
