Selfies in Video Games

Well here we are folks! The future of gaming is not only going to be filled with more thrilling story-lines and graphical-exuberance, but appears to also be incorporating selfies (lots-and-lots of selfies). Whether you like it or not, it seems that the camera functionality in games is here to stay. It sort of seems as if since the turn of the decade; perhaps around the time the term "selfie" became a literal dictionary-word, the aspect of the selfie is being implemented in video games more-and-more. You've probably notice this feature in a recent game, and if you haven't you will, due to the amount enjoyment the majority of gamers are having with the feature. Right off the bat I should just give my opinion on the matter, because honestly I don't care. The selfie feature in games, for the most part has been optional up to this point. Whether it will be adapted as a mandatory focus in titles has yet to be seen.

  Before we delve deep into controversial pool on the subject, perhaps I should discuss the positives first as is the rule-of-thumb. As I previously mentioned there is nothing wrong with selfies in games, other than the thought that there was some actual considerations to implement such a feature. For the most part, using the selfie aspect in games, there really isn't to much to it. I think that when someone originally hears about a game incorporating a selfie-mode, I am in the opinion that what probably goes through an individuals mind is that of quantity. The idea that the developers added a finite-amount of resources to a small additive to a game, implementing a bunch of features to a simple camera system that is only going to be used for self-indulgence or sent uploaded to social media. When is reality although the selfie-feature is given some careful consideration, there really isn't any "meat-on-the-bones". Besides a few gestures and camera positions, there really isn't much to it. Social media is a big proponent, and most likely the reason the feature exist. Not only is it a fun way for players to show their friends and followers the high-jinks their up too, but it must be great for publicity. It always appears when ever there's a will there's a way for businesses to market their products though consumers, nothing inherently wrong with the practice simply something that needed to be added to the argument. Overall its whatever, even though admittedly the concepts of selfies irks me a little inside. The fact that its being implemented more than ever in games, says to me that this is a feature the masses want in the medium. However, doing research for this topic kinda left me at a stand-still, as there really wasn't much do find. Not sure if the information on selfies in games lacks viewership, or I just wasn't entering the correct keywords for the matter. Well that's my take on it, what's your take on the topic?
