Battlefield 1 (review)

Intro
Ahhh nothing better than this time of year than to sit back and enjoy the company of loved ones,... or you can just drop a bunch of opposing-allies in the war-torn epic that was World War One. I gotta be honest, wa-wasn't to keen on picking up this title, originally I had chucked it up to another realistic-war game along the lines of say the Call of Duty series, that isn't to say I'm not apposed to realistic/war games I just find it difficult to get into a series that I wasn't apart of since the beginning. Luckily for "moi", it appears that the franchise has rebooted allowing scrubs like me an open-door into the series. Wait... what?... Okay it appears that this is not a start-up again for Battlefield, but rather a very jarring name placement for the recent installment. Well with that in mind, here's an equally bizarre thing I'm doing with the video game. I've been off my FPS game for awhile now, so in order to make up for that I decided to hop into the series with the title that literally has the number one in it, and then following it along with another game series in line with the World War theme.
Story
The campaign was incredibly interesting, rather than one continues voyage the story is broken up into small fragments, that isn't to say it isn't good, but it left me feeling conflicted. On one hand I enjoyed the change of pace (as it was unconventional), the ability to play the game at your own pace, as well as provide the player the option to even play the story mode, was as I initially said; interesting. However, with more-and-more big games adopting the approach of removing campaigns, perhaps this may become the compromise between the community and the industry.
Multiplayer
Alright, now let's talk about the real reason anyone buys these games; the online. Look I got Battlefield 1 purposely for the Xbox 1, now the console I'm playing on is one of the original systems that released, so its not exactly a powerhouse. However, the game looks amazing, I'm not a graphics whore but as a person that is well diverse in a multitude of platforms, the title runs terrific both offline and online. The multiplayer is fantastic as you not only have a bunch game-modes to distract you from getting bored, but if you wanna see the perfect balance of community & industry this is it. As micro-transactions are becoming more the norm Battlefield 1 is another great example how to do it right.
